North India Trip Series - Udaipur (Part2)

City Palace, Udaipur

some intesresting things the Maharaja Used last time:
Weighing Machine. i wonder what's the maximum weight can it support.

Toilet Bowl. check out the cushions. no more cold cold toilet bowl in the morning...

City view from the palace. it's just awesome. you can see the whole Udaipur City (white city) from the top floor of the palace.

saw this when we're traveling in the taxi. probably somebody has stolen his rickshaw and he tried to get it back.

saw this in the taxi also. a wedding ceremony. here they use horse instead of Merz, cool huh?

A desert cultural village. nothing but seeing lifestyle of the desert people

some kinda of desert house

view from the monsoon palace. another awesome one.

in the monsoon palace

in Lonely Planet, Mansoon Palace is also known as sunset point. or consider as one of the many sunset point. nothing but seeing sunset

sunset

another one

one last one

right after the sun set, we rush back to Bagore-Ki-Harveli to catch the traditional dance show. among all the dances, the best was this:

This lady started off with one pot on her head, dancing round and round, doing stunts and all. after each round, one more pot is added on her head.

she ended up having 9pots on her head,

as you can see, Rajahstan is a desert area and their Jabatan Pembekalan Air is not that effective enough to supply water directly to their homes. so they need to bring water back home from land far far away. the best way to do it is to put them on the head.

but do not try this at home cause it will lead to stunted growth...

bravo for her dance!!!

saying goodbye to Udaipur

took a photo with our guesthouse worker. doesn't he look like Jim Carey?

and before leaving, we got to know that the biggest turban was in the town! anything biggest in the world is sort of a must-see item. so we went back to Bagore-Ki-Harveli, the place where we watched the dance the night before, found the turban, took some photos and chiao...

off to Jaisalmer...

story time:
upon leaving the guesthouse, we found out that they extra charged us for something. so we had to talk to the boss whose house is in the guesthouse itself.
(*knock knock)

boss: "wait a second"
and before the boss finished saying "wai..." Lai Yin being Lai Yin pushed open the door...

(*10 + 10 + 10 + 10)

the boss was ONLY with his undergarment. the whole family looked at LaiYin.

LaiYin: "oopss... sorry boss..."

after coming back from the trip, LaiYin shifted to the room below mine.
JunHan: "Nickson, beware..."

wee.... winter is here!!!

I promised myself last year that i'm gonna drench myself in Manipal rain for once cause i heard it's fun!

so i decided to do it for once today.

gone are those sweaty days when we need to bathe a trillion times a day (3 X a trillion for YewKong). gone are the days where we've got higher susceptibiliy to get skin cancer. summer is gone!!! winter's here!

went to buy light bulbs for my balcony and a fluorescent light for the bath room. have to stop the bathing-in-darkness-being-afraid-of-stepping-on-a-live-indian-scorpion. yeap! they found a scorpion in Jih Huei's room. and they let it go alive far far far away from Acharya Compound.

Acharya Compound is a compound with all the bungalows where i stay... hahaha! sound poshy huh? well, they only build bungalows in india, not terrace. that's why Zac, our pastor's son, said "malaysian houses are boring."

back to playing with rain.

went to the shop with my bike-ky-ker. and suddenly the rain got heavier. actually i have no choice but to continue cycling. didn't REALLY plan to get wet.

yet to develope the skill of cycling and holding an umbrella at the same time. like what Jason did today on his scooter.

reached the shop bought the light and the bulb, met up with Lai Yin, settled everything and let Lai Yin to have the honour of taking the lightsaber home cause i just can't take it with my bike-ky-ker and the lightsaber stiking out from my back. otherwise by the time i reach home, my bag would be flooding inside.

reached home wet. totally wet.

and like my mom always says, "aiyo, -son. you're wet... go take a bath"

once i stripped, i realised that the light is still with LaiYin

fine fine! bathe in the darkness again.

lightsaber came back. then vincent came back. he tried putting the light on and

it is the starter that was not working after all...

anyone wanna jog in the rain with me to buy the starter?

Harvinder (taxi driver): " It's always there. you can't close it one!"

another one!

Happy Holi! was suppose to avoid Holi celebration cause it's kinda dangerous for us to go out. but! still we kena some colouring while trying to walk across the road for lunch...

according to them, they throw colour one another as a sign of friendship. so you cannot reject them for colouring you. it's either you stay in the room or you'll become colourful.

good thing we went back to our hotel after some green colouring. or else we'll become like this:

so we had to stayed in our hostel. till when the whole of India went to bathe and Holi celebration stopped.
had a good nap till 3.30pm got ourselves ready for a boat ride on Lake Pichola. and most importantly, the beautiful sunset.

Yew Kong and niCk, with Udaipur city as background

five of us (taken by a French couple whom i think were on a honeymoon trip and wondering why there're five jakuns sharing the boat with them watching sunset)

Udaipur City taken from the boat

Lake Palace

Sunset with Lake Palace

after the boat ride, we headed for dinner. in udaipur, almost all the restaurants are roof-top restaurant. really romantic.

Story time:
Yin Yee's friend (sms): " You go north india travelling ar? be careful of Tamil Tiger oh!"
Yin Yee: "don't worry la, north india too cold, tiger cannot survive one!"

no joke man!

it's 4.37am now. don't really know why am i blogging here.

just finished summarizing the Neoplasm chapter from Robins. don't even know what is necessary and what is not. just try to sapu everything into my mind and then forget everything tomorrow. hopefully the lecturer won't request so much from us cause who ever that knows how great is Robin's pathology textbook will know how much we need to read about those things that we don't understand.

went for two autopsies sessions today. nearly pengsan. pengsan of tiredness.
one was traffic accident and the other was poisoning (suspected organophophate poisioning since it's the most common poisoning)

this time was kinda smelly though. especially when they examined the stomach and it's content. well, i suppose it's not the worst we can get in forensic medicine.

after that went home and got some rest before preparing for tomorrow's PBL till now.

i suppose Manipal-ites will see zombie-niCk walking around.

good thing class starts at 10.30am

Dedicate to Yee En

When You Believe
Many night's we've prayed
With no proof anyone could hear
In our hearts a hopeful song
We barely understood,
Now we are not afraid
Although we know there's much to fear
We were moving mountains long before we knew we could

(chorus)
There can be miracles
When you believe
Though hope is frail
It's hard to kill
Who knows what miracles
You can achieve
When you believe
Somehow you will
You will when you believe

In this time of fear
When prayer so often proved in vain
Hope seemed like the summer birds
Too swiftly flown away
Yet now I'm standing here
With heart so full I can't explain
Seeking faith and speaking words
I never thought I'd say

i watched Prince of Egypt yesterday and thought that i should use the theme song to encourage you.

it's a story taken from the Bible.
the Hebrews were slaves in Egypt and all these while, they were praying to God that God will save them from this slavery.
that's why they were saying, "many nights they prayed, but seems like there's no answer."
still they persist! and finally, in God's timing, God rescued them to the Promise Land God has given them.
because they never give up!
they never give up and believe that they'd be saved.

as you go through this exam period, do believe! and you'll achieve!
"who knows what miracles you can achieve when you believe."

will pray for you! and all the best!

"kickapoo"

i always wonder what breed is our Flippy of. i can't always say: "neh! the fluffy fluffy type one, very cute one..." when people ask me what kinda dog i have.
so i went online and check out the breed that looks like Flippy. it's called cockapoo.

lai yin: " huh?! kickapoo? can drink one ar?"
niCk: (duh look)

so here is some photos of Flippy:

waiting in the kitchen, hoping that mom would drop some food for her while she's cooking

just woke up

acting innocent so that we would let her go

got amazed by the camera

and she's of Cockapoo breed. not Kickapoo

miss her very berry much!

deworming

for the whole of last week, found myself coudln't concentrate in studying. everytime i tried to study, i'll fall asleep in no time! or probably pharmacology is THAT boring that i can't stand it.

moreover, i was having polyphagia - craving for food, in another words.

Yin Yee: "look what's wrong with niCk. he's been eating a lot wey!"

after much studying about cestodes, trematodes and nematodes (basically parasitic worms), i suppose i have worm infection and decided to go for deworming considering any "-todes" can get their way into my stomach easily in India.
got hold of a tablet of Albendazole, which claimed to be effective against all the worms.
took it, i mean, chew it since it says it's chewable.

and the effect was: back to study!

of course, the worm came out, i suppose, coz my next pangsai after that chewing was kinda different. (sorry, no picture for that, and you don't wanna see that)

basically, deworming is part and parcel of life in Manipal...

North India Trip Series - MUMBAI

in the train

chicken maharaja mac (chicken big mac) our first ever McD meals after 6 months living in Manipal without McD

Victoria Station

stalls selling cheap-plak t-shirts next to the bus stop. Reminds me of Petaling Street.

Taj Mahal 5-star hotel which aparently doesn't look like taj mahal at all. (nope! didn't stay there)

Gateway of India

Lai Yin asked: "What time does the Gateway of India close ar?"
Taxi driver answered: "It's always there for you to take picture one!"

I wonder how can it be closed...

Lost in Mumbai

European-feel in Mumbai

A Jewish Synagogue

the "priestlhood"

some flora fountain. looks more like algae fountain

High Court. the clock tower looks exactly like Big Ben in London

after one whole day of walking, we had our horribly expensive dinner in this chinese restaurant called Chopstick restaurant. food was good though.

craving for Chocolate Sundae which, according to Lester, tastes like masala or some sort of spice in india. nope! it tastes as nice as malaysian McD Sundaes.
