Random

remember my post about my bike-ky-ker? finally i found out why it never fit in to the manipal society. and i found some peers for bike-ky-ker.

all this while i didn't notice that there's a specific parking lot for bicycles at the library. and i kept thinking why on earth that a person wants to park the bicycle away from the shades as though they are drying salted fish on the bicycle.

clever me, go and park my bicycle at the parking lot for motocycle and let people thought that i didn't know my bicycle is actually not a motorbike. pai seh. pai seh. no wonder the guard kept looking at me when i park my bike-ky-ker next to the motorbikes.

bicycle only

few days ago, Yin Yee smsed me while i was sleeping saying that she put my water bottle in the freezer. hello~ who cares la, in the middle of the night, nobody actually bother about this kinda messages. haha! especially when i'm sleeping soundly.

the next day after class, my house ran out of drinking water and the poor freezing water lying in the freezingly cold freezer hit my mind. but still, i could not drink it right away. so this was what i did.

then i got cold water. (by the time it melted, i was already dehydrated)

thank God for balcony. thank God for hot weather!

what a random post.

Tsun Jin High School

found this facts, FUN facts, about Tsun Jin High School from Wikipedia. there's where i learned my chinese-school-nurtured-with-limited-vocab-kinda-powderful-ah-beng-engLAND. read and you'll know why.

Tsun jin is a Chinese independent high school situated along Jalan Loke Yew in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It consists of A,B,C,D four buildings and an ‘English’ building meant for English language lessons only.
*yeah! they need the 'english' building badly.

Ground Floor
On the ground floor, there is:
• a double story library - It contains thousands of books and has mirrors that reflect the back of the shelves so that the head librarian (an old lady that prefers to be called ‘ah yi’ instead of ‘aunty’) will be able to see if any students decide to do anything inappropriate there.

*"ah yi" still means "aunty" in chinese. aunty is a taboo word!!!

• two badminton courts - they are situated on each side of the school hall therefore whoever inside the hall will be able to hear every cheer that is made out on the courts.
*i suppose the player is not gonna cheer when they play ON the courts. and why on earth that the whoever inside the hall wants to listen to the cheers while listening to lectures (scroll down to refer to the "air conditioned hall")

• a small car park - these car park spaces are usually used by parents who pick up their children after school who somehow think that getting out of the car will solve traffic problems.
*yeah! KL people solving traffic problems

• an air-conditioned hall - as said above, it is in between the two badminton courts. Concerts and any form of lectures are usually held there.

• a few extra rooms - these extra rooms are provided for societies that need space for their inventory. E.g. the boy scout and girl guide society, the dance society and so on.
*can i have some extra rooms for my house too?!

• a music room - the music room is usually occupied by the choir society. During school hours, the teacher uses it to hold music classes.

• a canteen - the canteen is the busiest place during break. Every student wants to buy at least something from either one of the two stalls in the canteen. The canteen closer to the Car park is generally considered cheaper than the other stall.
* student say: "eh! wait me awhile ar! i wanna buy at least something from the canteen!"

The first floor basically includes the staff room, the different departments and classrooms. The second, third only consists of classrooms whereas the fourth/last floor consists of more classrooms and two computer rooms.
*just ask for more! more classrooms! more classrooms!! i want more!!!

If you go down the slope on the right of the school gate, you would come to a 240m running track, a small field and two basketball courts which if we put a net up can become a volleyball court.
*if we put a net? fish net?! basketball net?! badminton net?!

As you can see, the school is a rather large school and has approximately 450 new students per year. (50students x classes) since the school has 6 years, the student population is approximately 2700+/-.

Academically, this school is excellent and has maintained that excellence for many years now. Aside from studying (which by the way, the school takes very seriously) Tsun Jin excels in many ways as well. Take sports for example; basketball teams have won many championships for the past few years, and the seniors have broken the country’s records over and over again. The choir society has won many awards including best piano accompaniment in the country, best male vocalist in the country and so on. Another one of the few incredible societies are the Tsun Jin High School Boy Scouts and Girl Guides. They have been to campfires every chance they get and of all the very few times they have been able to make it, they have come home with excellent results and the trophies to prove it. They were considered one of the best boy scout and girl guides troop ever seen.
*"show me the tropies!!!"

Tsun Jin High School has more than a hundred societies including the drama club, Chinese society, debate team and many, many more.

The time table for this school is fixed. Every other Monday, we will have an assembly while each morning during administration period, different years will take turns to do their morning exercises followed by a speech session where every class representative will deliver a speech in that particular week’s language. During school hours, every period is 40 minutes long and there will be a ten minute break after every two lessons. There will be two longer breaks, once at 9.20 in the morning for twenty minutes and the other at 12.30 in the afternoon for forty minutes. Unlike many other schools, this school has cleaner toilets and two on each floor. It even provides toilet rolls.

As this is a typical Chinese independent school where their first priority is discipline, the student’s natural instincts have been honed to tuck in their shirts, tidy their hair etc. when they see a teacher.

Until this year, (2007) Tsun Jin has been established for 52 years. it’s future is bright and the student population is increasing.

my bike-ky-ker!

i'm back!!! back with my bike-ky-ker!

bought over Josephine's bicycle. ok the name sound girly because she IS a girl. that doesn't mean my bike is girly ok? she sold it to me because the bicycle is too boyish for her.

haha! niCk tries to cover things up. niway, she bought that bicycle from Tze Yong (a guy's name, ok?) and she doesn't use it, neither did Tze Yong. so i bought it over since i'm staying 100m further from my previous resident -- the neraka-di-dunia New AC hostel.

so my bike is a guy's bike secara konklusi!

my bike-ky-ker. see! it's a guy's bike (taken with motorola v3i)

i name it bike-ky-ker, just like how a two-year-old boy pronouce bicycle

(papa! i saw a bike-ky-ker flying next to an a-o-pane, and then hor, and then hor, a he-i-copter was flying behind the bike-ky-ker and the a-o-pane!)

let's listen to some of the comment for those who ter-see me riding my bike-ky-ker

Sharidan (batch 19 class rep): "eh! so cute la!"

someone whom i forgot who: "eh! so cute la!"
*both on the same day!

Robin and gang: "uwah! healthy lifestyle, non-polution, safe money some more!"

Lai Yin: "eh, can you help me to carry my laptop to class? please?"

Perry: "hey! get a bike la!"
*bike in India only means motorbikes, not bicycle

Yew Kong: "uwei! you got a bike ar?!"

Jun Han: "whose one?!"

mom (sms): " so Dr ride bicycle to class then later bring girlfriend sit at the back. olden days movie. ha ha!"

the list goes on and on, and weirder and weirder. ok! it's really odd riding a bicycle in Manipal especially studying in MMMC. everybody either owns a motorbike or nothing. bicycle just doesn't fit in.

see?! it just doesn't fit in!

like what my mom said: " you getting bicycle? why not a bike?!"

hello!!!! first of all, i don't know how to ride a bike (probably i do, but i just don't want), and i don't wanna maintain a bike with petrol price hiking at Rs50 per liter. so sorry ler, bike just doesn't fit in to my life. (forget about cars!)

so bike-ky-ker's gonna teman me till the end of my course here in Manipal. really enjoy riding my bike-ky-ker around alone.

Bye bye, po po.

when i know her, she was already an old woman to me. and dialectal barrier is the only thing that separated me and her. never could get a chance to understand her well.

and now that she's gone.

she's my "senai po po"

yesterday mom smsed me saying that po po passed away. natural death i suppose.

still remember last May, mom told me that po po insisted to travel all the way to KL to see all her children and grandchildren. she was 91 years old then and somehow felt more peaceful after the KL trip inspite of the horrible 4-hour-travel in a car.

since i wasn't around during her KL trip, i made a point to pay her a visit during my last August vacation. she was really glad that i went back to see her. and the best part was she actually remembered my mom telling her that i'm studying in overseas. and she praised me for making it to study overseas.

thank God that i made it to see her, somehow knowing that it was the last time.

good bye po po!

this is the only photo of senai po po i have in my hard disc. taken during chinese new year. and this shows how sharp her brain is despite her old age.

North India Trip

suppose to post something about our north India trip.

BUT!

class has started way before i feel like want to do that.

will do that! i promise!

one fine day! (God knows when...)

a picture speaks a thousand words

it tells you that i travelled around by train, i went to Taj Mahal, and i rode a camel (hopefully i don't smell like camel to Kok) and someone colored me green on Holi

read Kok's blog and it makes me feels like i should not blog anymore in order not to spoil the beauty of english with my chinese-school-nurtured-with-limited-vocab-kinda-powderful-ah-beng-engLAND. still remember people saying my "england is quite powderful" last time

Kok, by the way, is the champion for creative writing from Batch 18, MMMC.

in the scale of 10, if Kok's blog is 10, mine would be around 0.00123. that's how good it is. and that's the reason why people call me niCk instead of the-champion-in-creative-writing Kok.

people! read Kok's blog! (free advertisement! not sure if i can link his URL here or not. can i?)
but make sure you do that after reading mine. so that you won't feel the boring-cum-emptiness in my posts.

don't worry la! i'll still blog!

Malaysia - Truly Asia

we were having lecture on pharmacokinetics. in drug metabolism says that metabolizers can be divided into extensive metabolizers and poor metabolizers. for example, asians are fast acetylators (some how our acetyle transferase can work faster) compare to non-asians.

and our lecturer emphasized that "even if you're born in Malaysia, you must know that your origin is from asia. you know? chinese, indians. so you guys are considered as asians too!."

but no offence! she's a good teacher! she made us understand pharmacokinetics quite well!

Just do it! Oh no! It's Mr Annand!

the story that i'm gonna share is something which i think worth sharing. four more person will agree with me and bug, or even beg, me to post this on my blog.

Watak dan perwatakan:
  1. niCk-the-me -> MMMC student (batch 18)
  2. Yin Yee -> MMMC student (batch 18)
  3. Jun Han -> MMMC student (batch 18)
  4. Lai Yin -> 3-distinction MMMC student (batch 18)
  5. Nina -> MMMC student (batch 18)
  6. Mr Annand -> student council advisor, attends Bread of Life ministry church
  7. Sanjeev's friend (forgot what's her name) -> MMMC student (batch 18, refresher)

dan watak-watak sampingan yang termuncul.

we (niCk, Yin Yee and Jun Han) were doing scrap book for our north trip in my house. it was 2.35am and everyone was so tired. at the point when everyone wanted to give up, i suggested, "Why not we do something radical? something stupid?"

"huh?!" asked Yin Yee with the blurry look. "like what?"

"let's walk around Manipal at this hour. let's walk to Bombay Bazaar and turn back" i said.

and without second thought, everyone agreed (bare in mind, it's 2.35am). and we started our journey dropping by at Yew Kong's place to see if he wanted to join us. too bad, he's asleep.

so we walked and walked. and i called Lai Yin telling her what we're doing and asked if she wants to join us. she said, "if i tell nina (she was in nina's place), she sure say no one". turn to nina and asked, "nina! three Jakuns are walking around manipal now, wanna join?"

"let's go!" said nina. well, don't know who is the one that was saying no??

so we waited them at Udupi bus stand which is around 500m from my house. at the bus stop, we did lotsa stupid things like taking pictures while Yin Yee lying down on the bench pretending that she's sleeping like begger. after a few flashes, some guards approached us holding a stick. and he talked to us in Karnada. and i told him that we're waiting for friends to come (yeah right! at 2.45) and he kept looking at me as though i'd spoken something great.

maybe he just didn't understand english or "we are waiting for our friends" sounds like " i want to eat you up" in Karnada.

not long after, Lai Yin and Nina came and we continue on with out journey to Bombay bazzar which is another 300m away. on the way there, some one asked "what if the guard tells Mr Annand and Mr Annand will do something about us roaming around Manipal at this hour?"

and i said, "what if he also having a walk?"

lalala, nobody cared what would happen if we seriously saw Mr Annand coming.

reached Bombay Bazaar and decided to go back using the hospital route. at least it's not so boring. while reaching the trauma and emergency centre, i suggested, "why not we go to the trauma centre. since just walking around is kinda boring. at least there we can see stuff. happening stuff" it was suppose to be a joke by the way and we saw a light flashing.

"it was police car!" exclaimed somebody.

"oh no, oh no!"

and as the jeep turned, we saw a Mr Annand-looking guy sitting in front of the jeep. and the jeep stopped. we walked further in front and with eyes opened wide, "it's Mr Annand!!!"

die die die. "how ar? what to explain?" "how to tell him what we're doing?"

"what are you all doing here?" asked Mr Annand. "erm. just walking around."

and nina pointed at Mr Annand asking, "sir, what are you doing here then?"

"Oh!" said Mr Annand, "there's a girl from batch 18 met with an accident and i need to go see how is she"

RELIEVED!!!

"OMG! who is that?" i asked

and Mr Annand said some name which we didn't know who is that in batch 18. well, since we're in batch 18 for a year dy. so we asked that if we could go along with Mr Annand to see her.

"come, come" said he.

and as we went in, we realised that it's Sanjeev's friend. she was riding on her scooter and fell or something. by the time we saw her, she had stitches on her forehead dy.

since she didn't bring her ID card out, Mr Annand had to go the her house to take it. and he asked me to go along with them (Mr Annand, with a guard and a police-looking driver) during my absence, they got so worried that i might get some lectures from Mr Annand for coming that late.

well, it never happened.

"tell me lah (Mr Annand had already learned how to use "Lah" recently), why you all walking around so late?"

"we were doing out scrap book and we got really tired, so we came out for a walk" i answered.

"oh!"

after picking up the ID card and all. we went back to the hospital and we were waiting outside the trauma ward. found out that the girl was fine and Mr Annand came out telling us that we could go back dy. nothing much could be done also.

"i think God sent you all here lah!" Mr Annand said and he suggested, "you all can continue walking around before going back!"

joker!

then we sweet talk while, saying the he's great and so sacrificial, cause anything happen to the student, he has to come out. like doctor's having on-called like that this and that.

great!

somemore he asked us if we're staying in hostel knowing that the curfew is 12am. i think he's sleepy also.

so we walked back. passed by the mortuary twice! (OMG!)

since Lai Yin and Nina had to walk back to Nina's house which is quite far away, three of us decided to walk to back and on the way there, a limping dog was following us. and guess what? every single dogs from Manipal came out to bark at us. and some got closer to us. we were so so so scared. so we stayed in Nina's house. ate something and watch The Return of th King on HBO until 5.30am. walked back to my house. it was 6am. sky's bright.

slept till 11am and continue doing our scrap book.

moral of the story: just do it!

At the Cross

At the Cross - Hillsong

verse 1
Oh Lord You've searched me,
You know my way;
Even when I fail You,
I know You love me.

verse 2
Your holy presence
Surrounding me
In every season,
I know You love me;
I know You love me.

chorus:
At the cross I bow my knee,
Where Your blood was shed for me,
There's no greater love than this.
You have overcome the grave,
Your glory fills the highest place,
What can separate me now?

verse 3:
You go before me,
You shield my way,
Your hand upholds me;
I know You love me.

bridge:
You tore the veil,
You made a way
When You said that it is done.

verse 4
And when the earth fades,
Falls from my eyes,
And You stand before me,
I know You love me;
I know You love me.

it goes "deng deng deng deng deng"
then again "deng deng deng deng deng"
then again "deng deng deng deng deng"
and one last time "deng deng deng deng deng ... O Lord You've..."

ok ok! that reminds me of Jefferey Cheah because when he lead worship, he'll make out all the sound effect that he wants using his mouth... (ding dong chiang!!!)

today is Good Friday. somehow it's one of the public holidays in Manipal. so yey! it's holiday. planned to stay at home while others are in Goa. As in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD of manipal is in Goa now. so no point going there to see people that i can see in Manipal. moreover i'm so so so broke after our trip to north india. and the nerd-niCk need to get some studies done before pharmacology lecturers come and bombard us with lotsa drugs. or else i'll really get high.... high fever

got online today and receive a message from Chee Yong.
instead of saying happy easter (though it's not today), instead of saying “good morning” or “good afternoon” or “good evening” or maybe just a simple “good day”, he greeted me with:

"Good Friday!"

then me being polite wished him "Good evening"
and he said it's not funny.

So let’s see, today is Good Friday. Never truly understand what that Good Friday means until God touched my heart once upon a time.

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. –John 3:16

I always thought I was the one that controls my life. Well, it does make sense. I did what I thought it was right and I ended up follow what the world is doing. Blindly. Yeap! like a blur sotong (do you call them blur squid in English?).
God touched my heart once and gave me a purpose in life to live for. And no longer I need to follow what I’m not supposed to follow.

I have a purpose because of Him!

And sad to say, I come from a not so complete family. Not to say totally broken. Just not so complete. And I still cannot imagine how I could survive through my teenage years without God in a broken family. Probably I could, but I won’t become like what I am today.

The bible says that it is God that chose us. He chooses to love us.

And His ultimate love, by dieing on the cross for me and for you. To redeem , to save and to become our friend. As He died (when it’s done!), He tore the veil, He made a way for us to heaven, to God.

At the cross we bow down and reflect how great His love for us is. No matter how many times we fail God, He’s there with His arm open wide accepting our wrongs, forgiving us and guiding us through all circumstances.

Feels like you’re lost? Try God! He’ll touch you the way He touched me. And your life will be way exciting!

Remember what happened at the cross.

Welcome in

one of the first things that they told us during our orientation in Melaka before coming over to Manipal is "DO NOT shift out! stay in the hostel la la la so that you will la la la and la la la"

ok, the whole idea is that we HAVE to stay in the hostel so that we can prove to the world that our parents are rich enough to pay so much for the hostel (a proper and comfortable hostel in INDIA) and they also want to prove to the world how rich they are by earning our parents money.
my mom is not rich, and i think there's no point paying so much for Manipal hostel, i decided to shift out instead.

one of the reason they PLEADED us to stay in the hostel is because they claimed that they can give us security.

and one of the reasons why i shifted out is because i've seen burglary case, i've heard of stories about robbery in the hostel. and the warden even cut open the lock to accomodate more students during vacation bacause they don't have enough rooms to accomodate all the students.

so, that's a pretty good reason for me to shift out instead of paying for their SECURITY.

another reason, probably not so a valid one but who doesn't want to be free from curfew?!

here you go! welcome to my room! NEW room to be exact!

study table, bed. second year books on the floor

there's where i keep all my stuff

study hard and play hard. books with Taboo!!!

fun-ness!

today is the day of fun-ness. because it's the day after April Fool.

no no. nothing to do with April Fool. not that i did anything yesterday other than calling my mom and told my aunty that i was back in Malaysia and waiting for them in KLIA.

and of course... she believed

still my mom is the smartest. she told my aunty that it's April Fool.

then only my aunty told me that they are on the way to KLIA to fetch me.

erm... kinda slow.

but seriously miss them alot. used to think that all my aunties are quite noisy when they gather together. well, who doesn't know that all my aunties are women. and who doesn't know that when women gather, they can rock the world.

told my mom that i've gotten my web cam (wee-ness!) and it cost around RM120.
then she gave me the "huh?" and asked why is it so cheap.
so i made myself clearer saying that i've gotten my WEB CAM.

all this while she thought that i'm getting a video cam.

(*sigh) mom... mom...

ok, come back to the fun-ness day

today's the commencement of our second year. somehow all the lecturers were programmed to say the same thing "congratulations for passing first year" as their first sentence and then go on with their lecture.

after the introduction on pharmacology, pathology and microbiology, could see that second year is much more medical than first year because we're gonna learn things that we're gonna practice next time. unlike studying anatomy in detail and forget every thing right away in the exam hall after answering all the questions, second year has more application than theory which is important in the future. but of course, we need some first year foundation to study second year.

another wee-ness is that our classes starts at 9am till 4pm, and sometimes 3pm. cool-ness!

went to Lester's house to check out the books that we need to buy for second year. on the way there, the thing that all the Manipal-ites are "proud" of happened - power cut.

was passing by Nehru Hostel's generator and got so amazed by it. it made some i'm-gonna-generate-electric sound, then some smoke came out and the whole hostel got light up. (jakun-ness)

reached Lester's house and found out that his inverter was not working. in Manipal you need to spend a bomb on the thing known as inverter together with the battery to generate eletricity in case of power cut. so Lester's house was totally black out.

what's great is that Manipal has set a rule to have power cut everyday at around 8pm. that's why i said it's something they're "proud" of.

according to pastor, it is because now Indian secondary schools are having majors exams. and remember the thing called inverter? those inverter company having the i'm-sure-every-home-will-need-an-inverter mindset to bribe the "TNB" in India to have some power cut so that they can earn more bomb (did i said that an inverter will cost a bomb?)

according to Dr Jonathan, it is due to summer and the electricity demand is high because everybody uses AC and all the fans are spinning in speed of light. moreover the river is quite dried up for hydroelectric. that's why they need to cut off the power supply to save... dunno save who. imagine KMC hospital having regular power cut.

according to me, i think it's because the inverter companies bribe the electricity supply company during this exam period so that they may earn more money by selling more inverter. on top of that, the weather here is so hot that electric demand is high and the river is dried up for hydroelectric.

ok ok. i know it's crap. but seriously, the power cut really annoys me and the whole world except for the inverter company.

next time should contaminate the water here so that there won't be any distill water available for inverters to function.

so the power cut will annoy the whole wide world including the inverter companies.

That's why our pastor love dancing!

we watched a documentary just now during bible study about the miracles happening in a church in Nigeria where cancer patient, the crippled, and even HIV positive patients got healed.

very yucky seeing them squeezing out the tumour. looks like tartar sauce mixed with some tomato ketchup. thank God i'm a medical student! otherwise i'll just vomit there and then.

it was amazing seeing how God work. and it's live. as in you don't only see the before and after effect. you see the whole process when they pray and immediately get healed.

that's faith!

while watching, i told Zac, pastor's son, that African churches love dancing and singing alot! and he said, "that's why my dad loves dancing"

Zac Zac...

but pastor did told somebody that he's from Africa jokingly and they believe... hahaha!!!

pastor pastor...

pastor's family and me:
